Melissa Chavin, Of Counsel

We are pleased to maintain an Of Counsel relationship with London attorney Melissa Chavin through which we have expanded our services and our ability to provide client access to exceptional US immigration legal advice.

Ms. Chavin has been practicing exclusively in the field of US immigration law for nearly two decades, starting her practice in Chicago and Munich. She has extensive business and investment immigration law experience, but also offers keen insight on marriage and other family relation-based immigration matters, as well as questions relating to maintenance of lawful permanent resident status and US citizenship.

She consults often on visa issuance delays and re-application after a visa application denial. Most individuals can travel to the United States visa free, but those who cannot use the visa waiver program or ESTA travel authorization may wish to use a lawyer’s services. Ms. Chavin helps applicants put forward their best case for visitor visas. She has extensive business and investment based visa experience, as well as marriage-based immigration knowledge. She helps with questions relating to citizenship renunciation and acquisition, and abandonment and maintenance of lawful permanent resident status.

Licenses. Ms. Chavin is an active member of the state bars of New York and Connecticut. Associations. She is a member of the five person Executive Committee leading the European Middle East and Africa chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA RDC EMEA Chapter). She speaks regularly on immigration matters, including at the AILA Annual Conferences. Law Firms. Prior large firm experience: Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld, LLP (San Antonio and New York) and Clifford Chance, the London based Magic Circle firm (Moscow, Russia). Education. She graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1994 (JD). She holds bachelor and master degrees in Russian Literature and Language (MA) and Russian Language and Civilization (BA) from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990. Languages. She speaks Russian fluently and reads French. She has a working usage of German.
